Medellín Wellness Start-Up Aims at Disrupting US Healthcare

It´s no secret, US healthcare is the highest cost per capita in the world. Medicare and Medicaid account for nearly 25 % of the $4.1 trillion Federal budget and that doesn´t count all the money states spend on Medicaid and the billions Americans spend on health insurance. It´s a 4 trillion dollar ¨industry¨.

Medellin Wellness (MW),  aims to disrupt US healthcare on three fronts:

  1. MW´s 28 Night ¨Get to Know Colombia¨ Tours offer a low cost, high quality way for foreign visitors to stay at a deluxe all suite hotel in Rio Negro and take advantage of the amazing low cost high quality lifestyle in Colombia with excursions, daily activities, weight loss programs, medical tourism and house hunting.
  2. Comprehensive Health Checks are included in its wellness and weight loss programs. MW also plans to offer quick lower cost checks with complete blood count and other tests to the general public and millions of foreign tourists visiting Colombia each year in a promotion MW calls ¨Take A Day Out For Your Health.¨
  3. Offering International Patients Superior Lower Cost Treatments and Surgeries by offering a wide range of healthcare treatments and surgeries at Medellin´s internationally accredited hospitals and clinics for higher complexity treatments and surgeries.

Chronic diseases account for about 80 % of the total US healthcare expenditures and yet, according to the CDC, they are the most preventable of all diseases. Chronic diseases show few, if any, symptoms until they are in an advanced stage when they are very expensive to treat and are the leading cause of death and disability.

According to the CDC, there are tens of millions who have chronic diseases and do not know it although a simple complete blood count (CBC) and urine test which costs less than $100 would tell them.

What we need is an ounce of prevention, not a pound of cure.

Medellin Wellness is on a mission to reduce chronic diseases through early detection and treatments.

Obesity:

According to the CDC, 37 % of American adults are obese. A very high percentage of teens and young children are obese as well. Millions more are borderline obese meaning they are 20 to 40 pounds overweight. It is a worldwide health crisis. Obesity leads directly to many chronic diseases and can be disabling.

New weight loss drugs are promising but they are new and very expensive requiring weekly injections at a cost of about $1,000 per month. We still do not know all the potential long term side effects and you will likely regain all the weight you lost if you quit the injections. Drug companies see BILLIONS in profits so they are working fast and furious.

Medellin Wellness offers a couple better long term solutions: our wellness and weight loss programs and low cost, safe and highly effective bariatric surgery.

Wellness retreats in the US and around the world are very expensive  costing typically $6,000 to $12,000 per week. MW plans to offer its 14 night, 15 day luxury wellness retreat for less than the cost on one week in comparable US wellness retreats and even include a comprehensive 6 to 7 hour health check at one of Medellin´s internationally accredited hospitals.

MW will offer an all-inclusive gastric sleeve bariatric surgery package for about $7,000 which includes all hospital, surgeons and anesthesiologist charges, pre and post op consultations and exams, 1 night hospitalization, medications, 14 nights in the brand new luxury Versus Hotel, airport pick up and return, transportation to all appointments and Healthcare Concierges to guide the patients and their companion every step of the way.

Gastric sleeve bariatric surgery in the US costs between $15,000 and $25,000 just for the surgery.

Other Treatments and Surgeries:

MW will offer international patients a wide range of treatments and surgeries at all inclusive prices which are generally less than 50 % of the cost in the US.

Says MW co-founder William Gray, ¨Our mission is to become the leading healthcare provider in the Americas. People have suffered too long at the hands of US hospitals and insurance companies. We offer patients a superior quality experience at a much lower cost.¨
